Prenatal detection rates for the different types of clefts

چکیده
Facial clefts are among the most common congenital anomalies, with a point prevalence of approximately 1:500 to 1:1000 live births.1,2 Prenatal detection and diagnosis has been recognised as useful to facilitate prenatal counselling, to evaluate genetic risks, and to prepare the parents psychologically to accept and plan for neonatal surgery after birth. To improve the evaluation of these defects—particularly those of the palate—threeand four-dimensional ultrasound (3D/4D US) has been widely introduced as an additional tool to complement conventional two-dimensional ultrasound (2D US).

[Prenatal detection of orofacial clefts].
Orofacial clefts are one of the most common congenital anomalies. The incidence is approximately 1 : 500 to 1 : 550 births [1]. The group of orofacial anomalies is heterogeneous. It comprises “typical” orofacial clefts ((cleft lip (CL), cleft lip and cleft palate (CLP) and cleft palate only (CP)) and “atypical” clefts (median, transversal, oblique and other Tessier’s types of facial clefts)[1]....

متن کاملImpact of prenatal diagnosis and elective termination on the prevalence of selected birth defects in Hawaii.
This study examined the effect of prenatal diagnosis and elective termination on the prevalence of neural tube defects, oral clefts, abdominal wall defects, and chromosomal anomalies in Hawaii by using actively ascertained surveillance data collected between 1987 and 1996 by the Hawaii Birth Defects Program. Because the Program has nearly universal access to prenatal diagnostic information and ...

متن کاملFacial clefts diagnosed before birth: routine ultrasound screening at the multi-disciplinary center for prenatal diagnosis \(PCPD\)
Since 2005 in France, the national technical committee of prenatal ultra-sound screening (CNTE) has recommended that pregnant women have a routine second trimester ultrasound screening for facial clefts. The view on the coronal reference plane visualizes the continuity of the upper lip, and makes it possible to detect most facial clefts, but not isolated palatal clefts.
